About This Workshop
Starting on Valentine's Day, let's spend time doing something we love: painting.
Join me for a hands-on, exclusive two-week workshop in making modern art. This is perfect for the absolute beginner as well as experienced artists who want to loosen up their style and allow inspiration to flow.
I will cover all the details you need to get started:
- canvas and paints
- types of brushes
- the master artist who inspires us, Kandinsky
- soft versus hard edges
- how to get choose a personal stamp for your piece (optional step)
- and more!
This workshop is designed to be an enjoyable challenge. I will refer to one painting by Kandinsky throughout as a guide, but you can choose another abstract painting as your reference. You'll get the guidance you need step-by-step, to help you stay on course. But I will encourage you to use your imagination and paint to your heart's content.
I’ll be contacting you along the way, with encouragement and reminders to keep you on track with the workshop deadlines and goals. In the end, you’ll choose subject matter and colors that appeal to you to complete your final project.
WHAT YOU'LL GET
Guided Experience: I will personally guide you through this workshop to help you learn how to become a modern art master.
Feedback: Each of you will receive personalized 1-on-1 feedback from me throughout the process.
Intimate Learning Environment: We will all experience it together and support one another along the way!
The fun part: PRIZES
The workshop features three giveaways for participants who work hard and posts their projects.
One student who does an excellent job on his or her project will receive one Art-o-carton full of original, handmade art by Artomat artists. (a $100 value)
Artomat is a collaborative project of small original paintings or handmade items, offered for sale in refurbished cigarette machines. I am an artist who contributes to this awesome project. Tons of inspiration for you here!
Two more students who make strong contributions to the workshop will each receive a $25 gift certificate to P.S. Sweets Shop on Etsy. (because artists need tasty and beautiful food to fuel their creativity)
HOW IT WORKS

- Make sure you’re enrolled in the class Abstract Art with a Twist: Personalize a Modern Masterpiece.
- Begin watching the video lessons to learn the skills you need to complete the project.
- Check your inbox! Every few days, you’ll receive an email outlining which project step to complete next.
- Share your project phases in the class project gallery (or use the tab above -- your project show up here within this workshop and in the class project page, also) according to the workshop timeline below.
- Keep an eye out for feedback and be sure to provide support and encouragement to your classmates, as well. The best learning experience on Skillshare is collaborative!
- Have questions? Ask away in the Discussion section here (tab at the top of this page).
- Upload your finished project to the project gallery by February 27nd at midnight to successfully complete the workshop.
- I'll announce winners on Sunday, February 28.
Note: If at any time, you fall behind on a step, don't worry! You can catch up easily. As long as you complete your project by the due date of Saturday, February 27, you will qualify for the giveaways.

- Check out: My project full of supplementary helps or my blog post on class resources
- Step 1: Start your project in the gallery and share the general idea you will pursue.
- Step 1 Due: Thursday, February 18
February 19 - 22:
- Watch: Video Lessons 3 - 4 (under 8 minutes)
- Step 2: Share your project progress to get feedback on your color choices, general layout, and reference material
- Step 2 Due: Monday, February 22
February 23 - 27
- Watch: Video Lessons 5 - 6 (under 10 minutes)
- Final Project Step: Submit your project with final touches. If you decide to personalize the piece, please post photos of this last step.
- Total Project Due: Saturday, February 27 by midnight
