The Secrets of How to Memorize 
In this class you will learn everything about how to memorize a piece of music, and how to apply actionable strategies in your practice. We will work together to create a visual map to strengthen your cognitive memory. This course has the following 4 parts.
<ol><li>Why we memorize – talking about the benefits of memorizing for performance. As this process often requires lots of effort, it will be helpful for you to think about the reasons and have a perspective of why.</li>
<li>Principles and the process – we’ll discuss the principles and the process of memorizing, so that you better understand how it works. Then we will talk about how musical memory functions.</li>
<li>A visual map - we’ll create a visual map of a section of Für Elise by Beethoven. This familiar tune might make it easier for you to see how I create a visual map in real time so that you can create your visual map as a class project!</li>
<li>Actionable strategies - I will share 20 practical strategies that you can apply in your practice to help you strengthen your memory.</li>
</ol>Regardless of your level, this course will help you understand how musical memory works and to become a better musician.
WHO AM I?
I am Jeeyoon Kim, a classical pianist and teacher. On the side I make YouTube videos about practice tips, performances, the behind the scenes of a pianist, and run the podcast Journey Through Classical Piano of which  each episode talks about a composition for classical piano in depth. I have been performing and teaching for 20 years and the question of how to memorize has been one of the most frequently asked questions. I thought that I’d put together this course, as I always had a hard time answering this question in a few sentences.  I hope this course will help you create beautiful music better with a sense of freedom and deeper understanding of the piece.
