As a published, professional illustrator and author of children’s literature, I am always looking for projects that will not only challenge me, but further my very enjoyable career. If you've written an awesome children's book that you'd like to see illustrated and published, please contact me at wscribbles@att.net and we'll discuss the possibilities.

I create my book illustrations using Procreate on my I-pad pro with an Apple digital pen. You can visit my children's book portfolio at www.ljmichaels.weebly.com. There, you can examine many of the illustrations that I've created for the published books of previous authors/clients.

I also like to work with traditional mediums for other types of art, like watercolor, acrylic, or Prismacolor pencil. I began illustrating children’s literature in 2003, but as a typical Gemini (I get bored easily), I still enjoy the diversity of traditional mediums and use them often. Bouncing back and forth allows me the freedom to be as creative as possible and it's a great stress reliever!

As a child, I had very little access to picture books, so I’ve had a blast learning and perfecting the process of creating them as an adult. Illustrating picture books rekindled my love for writing as well, leading to the publication of several of my magazine articles and "contributing author" segments of books on the subject of children's publishing and illustrating. If you'd like to hear more about creating children's books, join me on my blog at www.theartofpicturebooks.com!

In 2009 I created, developed, and managed the on-line writers group, "The Yellow Brick Road", consisting of over twenty-five children's book writing professionals.  By 2017 it was one of the longest-running on-line critique groups on record. The experience was incredibly educational and resulted in many members achieving publication success.

Because of YBR's success, I am now personally able to offer high-quality, affordable content editing and critiquing services to picture book authors nation-wide. If YOU have a manuscript that needs a little help getting to the next level in preparation for submissions to editors, contact me or visit my blog for a price quote! I can also help with your (most important) Query or Cover Letter!

I learned about the power of good marketing early in my career. I was one of the very first professional children's book illustrators to create their own on-line portfolio website, and it helped to further my career.

Self-taught in the art of website developing, building and design, I recognized the need for AFFORDABLE websites for children's book authors. Today, I offer unique, one-of-a-kind websites to my clients that are very user-friendly and simple to update. You can find examples here and here!

In addition, I provide promotional materials, such as; posters, flyers, T-shirt designs, book markers, business cards, logos, etc.

On a more personal note:

I was born in Florida, but I love mountains and cool weather, go figure! I look forward to fall most of all, with it’s colors, smells and festivals. Autumn fills me with a happiness that has been dormant throughout the long, hot summer. I suddenly come alive again!

Although illustrating is my life, I also teach art and mentor up-and-coming illustrators and authors.

Thank you for taking a look around. I promise to do my very best to provide you with information that can help further your writing/illustrating career. I wish you every success and look forward to hearing from you. Enjoy!
