Texture Relinker (Ultimate)

For Autodesk Maya and Blender

Overview

The Texture Relinker is a production-grade Python utility designed to solve the most common headache in 3D asset integration: broken file paths upon import.

When importing assets (FBX, OBJ, MB) from external artists or marketplaces, texture paths are often hardcoded to the original creator's drive (e.g., C:\Users\Temp\...). This tool instantly scans your selected 3D models, identifies every texture node in their shading network, and re-routes them to a new target directory of your choice—all while preserving the specific filenames.

Key Features

🚀 Smart Filename Retention The tool ignores the old directory structure completely. It isolates the filename (e.g., Male_Bushy_Diffuse.png) and appends it to your new target folder. This ensures that even if the source was D:\Work\Project A\, it seamlessly updates to \\Server\Projects\Project B\ without breaking the link.

đź“‚ Deep Search (Hierarchy Traversal) No need to select every individual mesh. Simply select the top-level Group or Null (e.g., "Father_Grp"), and the tool recursively hunts down every child object, shape node, and material to find the relevant textures.

⚡ Force Relink (Network Drive Support) Standard tools fail when they cannot "see" a network path immediately due to latency or permissions. The Force Mode bypasses standard OS checks and writes the new path directly into the node, ensuring your render farm or network drive (\\MyHome-pc\G\...) is linked correctly every time.

🎯 Selective Scope Choose between Global or Local repair. You can fix every texture in the entire scene, or surgically repair only the specific character or prop you currently have selected.

Windows/Unix Path Normalization Automatically detects and corrects slash direction issues (converting Windows backslashes \ to Maya/Python compatible forward slashes /), preventing "Invalid Path" errors.

Use Case Example

The Scenario: You import a character named "Father." The model appears grey/white because Maya/Blender is looking for textures at: C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Temp\Father.fbm\Male_Diffuse.png

The Fix:

Select the "Father" group.

Paste your server path: \\JohnDrive\Project\Characters\Father\

Click Relink.

The Result: The tool instantly updates the node to your provided link
