Hi, I'm Mark. I'm a writer, a musician, and a professional musicologist.

A lot of creatives—writers, musicians, filmmakers, artists—struggle to consistently tap into their creative flow. I create courses that help them get clarity and make a plan, so that they can summon and harness their creative energies. 

I'm on a mission to help artists (writers, musicians, filmmakers, illustrators, graphic designers) gain access to time-tested creative principles and processes to help them make great art, consistently. I do this through my teaching here on Skillshare, through my teaching at a U.S. university, and on my website at www.mark-samples.com.

My Mission

Most creatives are haphazard in the way they approach creating their art. Patchwork, hodgepodge approaches picked up over the years lead to inconsistent output and quality.

But most of the biggest barriers to producing the writing, music, or films that you dream of have been solved by those who have come before you. The problem is access. If you were lucky enough to have a mentor or master that you could work under, you learned these lessons and approaches. If you didn’t have that mentor, you were left on your own to figure it out.

In my writing and courses, I uncover the best practices from writers, musicians, filmmakers, and other artists, and make them available to all in coherent, actionable format, because every artist deserves access to the tools they need to make consistently great art.
