Hey there, I'm Heather Sportsman.
I’m a full time visual artist and arts educator with over 15 years experience in arts education, portraiture, and illustration.
My job is to create easy-to-follow art content that increases knowledge, builds confidence, and achieves targeted criteria for success. All while being my naturally, fun, Southern self of course. I'm here to share what I know that works – and what absolutely does not.
I’ve been teaching on Skillshare since 2022 while simutaneously teaching art full time in the public school system. My mission is to help people from all walks of life to discover their inner artist with the simplest techniques and make meaningful strides in art skills, techniques, and habits to become an advanced artist.
I'm a member of Women's Caucus for Art (Texas Chapter), an Adobe Express Ambassador, a member of the Portrait Society of America and in my tenure as an educator I have served as Art Department Chair, sponsor to the National Art Honor Society, and I published, illustrated, and trademarked ColorMyVerses™a motivational coloring book for black and brown girls sold on Amazon and my website. I've received art grants, honors, solo shows, and shown my work around the world.
I have a WIDE array of skill sets in portraiture and illustration I cannot WAIT to share with you.

You don’t need any existing art skills or experience to take my classes, if you just have a desire to improve your art skills or tap into that inner artist. Each class features real-life examples and hands-on exercises to help you practice as you learn. I'm really right there with you. Encouraging and guiding you each step of the way!

Art teachers who need help structuring lessons effectively with personality and engagement. Absolute beginner artists who have NO idea even where to begin with art but have a desire to start. Shadow artists those who once drew or loved to paint, but stopped, due to lack of engagement or boredom. Mixed media artists like myself looking for a new perspective on a medium they've been curious about. Experienced artists who need a refresher course or excellent references to pull from!
