Well done Paula - I love your designs and well done for making a gear using this process! There is seldom only one way of doing things in Illustrator and you're now able to see the possibilities in the tools that you are using - fantastic. I am in awe of your commitment to learning Illustrator - you must be so pleased with how far you have come in such a short time. Thank you for posting your project.
