Winter squash

I made this painting almost entirely with a palette knife, using colors made in the color swatch set, pictured below. I used phthalo green, cadmium red light, titanium white, and used a bit of walnut oil as a medium. I really enjoyed this project! It was neat to watch the colors come together in the set of swatches. I intended for the stem of the squash to be warmer in color, and I think that the contrast between the light and dark in the folds of the fabric used as a background are rather strong, and I think it would be better if they were more blended. I tried to portray the background as being multicolored, but that didn’t work out so well.
Next time I will use a smaller substrate; the 8x10 canvas board I decided to use required a lot of paint to cover.
I painted the set of color swatches with a brush on a piece of watercolor paper I painted with white acrylic to keep the oil from being absorbed into the paper.
This project really engaged my mind and I look forward to working on the project for the next course!
