Project
Write a couple of sentences to describe the Lexicon typeface
Think about the typographic classification, and specifically about the anatomy of the typeface.
Can you think of advantages or disadvantages of using this typeface?
Where do you think this typeface might be used?
Lexicon could be classified as a serif typeface because it has little hats and feet among the letters. The letters also have bracketed serifs which indicates a Transitional subcategory. There are variations in the thin/thick strokes of a given letter such as “a” which has a thin top line and thicker bottom line around the counter part of this letter. It also appears that most of the letters are elongated in their x-height but the descender portions appear scrunched.
This typeface is thicker than Chap which can make it difficult to read as the size is made smaller. The Serif’s help create distinction and individualized each letter since they appear closer, having bolder lines.
This typeface gives a heading or title feel since it would not be best used for extended text.
Write a couple of sentences to describe the Chap typeface
Think about the typographic classification, and specifically about the anatomy of the typeface.
Can you think of advantages or disadvantages of using this typeface?
Where do you think this typeface might be used?
Chap could be classified as a sans-serif with a modern, clean feel having no serifs at the ends of the letters. It has unusual twists I some letters such as the tail of “g” and the middle strokes of “w”. There is subtle contrast among thick and thin strokes across the letters making them appear harmonious. This is a typeface that could be used in a long passage.
