Watercolor Portrait - Creating Light, Depth and Emotion

It's been about four weeks since I painted, but I had a feeling that today was going to be another fantastic day spent with you, Will!  You created such a beautiful subject with her flowing red hair and striking facial features. You have a natural talent for drawing, which I admire, especially since I continue to work on my own skills but often struggle with patience!

I didn’t stop to consider what the outcome might be on this piece; I just dove in and started painting. Thank you for the helpful tips on color combinations—your advice made a significant difference. I found the most challenging part to be her hair, and the shadows on her neck, but I'm still happy with the outcome of my experimental adventure!

Painted on Arches paper using all Daniel Smith Watercolor paints.  Thanks for the tip on using a Chinese Calligraphy Brush, something I don't often get the chance to use, but it worked great with this painting.

Now I need to revisit your other class paintings, as I'm quite behind—lol!
