Drawing Vintage-Inspired Color Palettes in Colored Pencil

oh Samantha! First off, thanks so much for being the brave first one to share your project!! :D Second of all I looove that you did the project using watercolor rather than colored pencil - I want my classes to be opportunities to explore what YOU feel like exploring and so it's really fun to see that you made it 'yours' in that way. And lastly... what gorgeous color palettes. :) It looks like you were able to find some of those beautiful muted colors (I love that pale/mid grey-blue-violet). Do you have a favorite amongst the palettes you found? I really like the 3 color palette in the middle as well as the second to last one with the orange red and muted turquoise!Cheers and thanks so much for sharing Samantha. Thanks so much for your comment Marie-Noëlle!! I absolutely adore your classes so I was very excited to see that you've seen my work. I wish I'd shown the whole zine now haha :)

I love watercolour but I found it harder making the shades more muted / vintagey, so the next page in the zine I will try coloured pencils! My favourite palette on this one is the 3rd row, with the deep purple and green.

I can't wait for your next class (and to take all your classes I haven't taken yet). Thank you for all your inspiration!

Yes it's tough making colors more muted! I didn't go into detail about how best to achieve that, but if you are interested in diving into the rabbit hole... I have a whole section about that in my Color Collector class! One thing you can keep in mind if you DON'T want to dive into the rabbit hole is to remember that using complementary colors makes the final color more muted and so choosing colors that are 'edging towards' the complementary will also help with making them more muted.
