Tropical Leaves in Gouache
@SilviaOspina.art
This is my first attempt using gouache so I bought a small starter set to use in this class. I am posting my drawing with the painted version of the leaf for comparison. I feel I have learned a lot from this class and am excited to continue in my practice with gouache. Any comments or suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.
#1 Palm-ish leaves. The left half is lightened with water and the right half is lightened using white. This was an excellent exercise to compare the results side-by-side.

#2 Banana Leaf. The middle palm was done according to your blending exercise. I got some blending but maybe not much to achieve some varying tonal value. It seemed to look flat to me. After I finished the last leaf lesson, I decided to revisit the banana leaf and add some shading to give it more depth.

#3 Monstera Leaf. This one is my favorite. I think I achieved depth and contour which was exciting.

#4 Calathea-Maranta. I'm not sure about this leaf but it is growing on me a little. I am not sure if I achieved the depth well enough around the veins.

#5-Calathea-Zebrina. Bonus Leaf lesson. I'm not sure if I achieved the proper effect with this one.

I took @Silvia Ospina's class on making repeating patterns in Photoshop and used my Monstera Leaf in the pattern.
