Tonal Study in Casein
This was a simple but fun project. I've never painted with casein paint. I've usually just used casein to tone paper before using pastels. I've been trying to learn oil painting and watercolor. It was interesting to see how casein compares to these other mediums. It reminds me a lot of guoche. I must be one of the weird ones because I like the smell of casein paint. But then again, I like the smell of most art materials (except cheap oil pastels - they smell like crude oil). For this project I used cold press watercolor paper. I think hot press might work better. I'd like to try doing a portrait in casein.
