The Tiger

Thank you, Carrie! I enjoyed your class, and this session was no exception. I found your tips helpful and would love to do this one again. I think I would skip using masking fluid for the fur areas, as I didn’t like how mine turned out. I accidentally lightened my lines a bit too much, which caused me to lose my place, and the area down the left side and under the neck didn’t turn out at all.

This session was a great practice for me. I liked working wet on wet in sections, as I often struggle when there's too much area to cover at once. I didn’t have black paint, so I used Neutral Tint, which didn’t quite have the intensity you demonstrated. My Winsor & Newton Burnt Umber also seemed less rich and dark compared to yours, so I needed to add a touch of Neutral Tint to darken it.

I've never been a fan of my Daniel Smith Cerulean Blue tube I first purchaced, and I keep contemplating buying a new tube. This one has been less than vibrant since I purchased it, and each time I use it, I wonder why I haven’t replaced it. My transparent orange was also from a different brand, and it turned out to be a really strong orange! I toned it down with Burnt Sienna.

I learned a lot about color mixtures while working on this piece, and I had a great time painting. I also identified areas for improvement for next time. Overall, it was a wonderful day!
