Exploring Color and Abstract Marks Inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe Early and Late Artworks

Wonderful additions, Jen! I love that you are continuing to explore Georgia's inspirations in your artwork. The color bleeds always make my watercolor-loving heart so happy. 😊 I love the layers of colors you created in both additional paintings. Would you mind if I shared them on my Instagram?

Yes, you can share them :) I love leaky, blendy watercolor bleeds too. Especially splotches! Too bad it makes paper buckle sometimes. Is there a (safe) fix? Because I would do so much more of it, lol

Thanks, Jen! :) You can put them under some heavy books to flatten them back out, that's my go to method. Or you could iron them on a low setting on the backside of the paper. I haven't tried this but I hear it works. Or you could wet the backside of the paper and I think that when it dries it'll flatten out. Let me know if you try that third idea. 

Awesome -- I've got a few under books and a few where I've wet the reverse. So far that's working pretty well, as long as the paper is thick enough. I tried it with a flimsy piece of paper and messed it up. (But it was ok to sacrifice it!)  Had to ask my hubby, "do we still have an iron? do you know where we put it?" ;)

I'm so glad that these strategies are working. Thanks for the update! Our iron lives a similiar existence. 😂

How wonderful that you had your own photos to use, Jen. That is very toothy paper but your painting looks lovely and the tooth adds to it. I love that you explored blurring it. Wonderful range of colors and opacity/transparency play. Thank you so much for sharing your artwork.  Would you mind if I shared it on my Instagram? Sorry for the review delay ... I was thinking that my painting was crummy and creating another painting. (Which I don't like either, lol.) Now I have a third (brighter!) version and will see what I can do with it.  With fresh eyes, the tooth isn't as bad as I thought ... I am glad you like the colors and the play. I'm using DR titanium buff which is super thick but I like the way it blends on its own. Anyway, I'm gibbering, lol! Yes, you can share it on Instagram :) See you in class

No worries, I've just programmed myself to ask over the years. :)  I hope you'll share your others. It'd be fun to see the progression. I'm not a fan of toothy paper either but I can see the benefits in others' paintings. lol.  Thanks!

I had no idea the paper was so toothy ... blurring it on Photoshop didn't really help.

This is US Route 50, dubbed the "Loneliest Highway" because it passes through a desolate region of Nevada. At one point there is an 80 mile stretch without services (like gasoline). This is the "Great Basin" -- a region of immense, barren valleys between rugged mountains. (Even barren there is life, though.)
