The Hysterical Garden

A first attempt at working with a new medium. This project proved itself to be a bit challenging and even a bit frustrating, but also highly satisfying and addictive at the same time. I will be putting the time into working with clay and improving on my skills (or maybe actually gaining skills) in this medium. I'm not completely satisfied with the end result of my project, but felt strongly about completing this and submitting my canvas anyway - something I never would have done in the past.

I decided to "go rogue" and not include my blueberries on the piece. Instead, I added some quartz points that I have been wanting to use because they just resonated with me more than the berries. Perhaps that's why my end result wasn't great. I also realized that the sunflower cutter that I purchased wasn't a good fit for this particular project.

I am pleased that I learned to shade with soft pastels as that is not something I had ever learned before. The instructor made this look so easy - that gives me hope that I can improve my skills if I continue working with clay.
