The Great British Viking Quest
Write a brief description, introducing yourself and/or your craft:
My name is Sarah, I live on a tiny island in the British Channel Islands called Alderney. I create YouTube videos, educational colouring worksheets, and Skype in the Classroom lessons for schools worldwide. Right now I'm building a boat ready to undertake a Guinness World Record as the first person to row solo around the coast of Great Britain. I'll be following the Viking Age routes, visiting important Viking sites, and speaking in schools as I go. I have two objectives with the expedition:
1) to create engaging Viking and ocean themed content for kids, teens, and teachers on my YouTube channel.
2) to use royalties from the YouTube and Amazon Video views to provide education to kids living on rubbish dumps, in orphanages, street kids, and those affected by poverty, gender, war, natural disasters, or disability.
Describe where you are now in the process of building your career:
Right now I struggle to make ends meet and my creative work suffers as a result of always worrying about feeding myself or keeping a roof over my head. I would like to find a sustainable way to bring in an income as a UK registered charity. So I can pay myself, so I can create content for my kids, teens, and teachers, and to be in a position to buy equipment that will upgrade my production and therefore make the content more tailored and engaging for my target audience.
I teach on Skype in the Classroom everyday for free with schools worldwide. I need to now turn those teachers and teens into regular viewers and users of the content I create. I would love to add value for teachers and get them excited about being a part of the project. If every one of the teachers/schools I connect with were to each give $1per month on Patreon all my problems would be solved. But I just don't know the secret formula to make this happen.
Share your next steps in prepping your creative business for monetization: 1. 2. 3. 4.
1. Improved and more consistent/regular content based on the questions kids always ask me.
2. Learning how to promote my YouTube channel, content, and Patreon page to my teachers on Skype in the Classroom.
3. Building up a community which people are excited to be a part of.
4. Bringing in funds to support myself and so I can start to really create cool resources.
