After finishing my project on screen (while recording) I felt I needed more texture, so I added that in. To do this, I command + clicked the layer I wanted to add texture to, then used a brush to color on an empty layer on top of the layer that I made the selection from, in order to continue to work non-destructively. I used Jamie Bartlett’s technique from her "Misprint" class to add the speckle. Here’s an example of a brushed texture layer above my mug layer:
