Watercolor Techniques: Easy Detailed Step by Step Sunflowers

Love everything about your sunflowers and the paint spatters too!

Hi Diana, so lovely to meet you here, and soooo glad you enjoyed the class! :-) And thank you for posting your gorgeous sunflower painting! I am really taken with all the detail you added on each petal, as well as all the layers of color, giving you some nice depth and shading. I can really see the textures come alive in both flowers and the stems. The varying green to olive tones in the stems are amazing, btw! Love the splatter element too. (I noticed afterwards, your art friends below noticed some of the same things I did. Great minds!) The only feedback I would include is that, if you were working from the reference image I provided, there may have been more shading to add to the bottom, left petals of the back flower, where it intersects with the front one. (For example, like the deeply shaded petal on the bottom left of the front flower). But you might have been using a different reference image, and this detail doesn't at all hurt the look of the project. Just wanted you to have something to take with you to the next project if applicable. It's also so encouraging to see you tackling a subject matter that challenges you. That's the best way I've found to grow because it takes my current skills and adds continually new arsenals to them. All around a great job!Thanks again for sharing your work here and on Instagram, and I hope to see you in another class soon!  Also, would you mind if I share your project in another Instagram post I'm working on?

Thank you so much Chris for the detailed review.  It is nice to meet you here as well.  That’s one of the best things about Skillshare is the camaraderie with all the students and teachers.  I have met so many wonderful people from all over the world.
I can see what you are talking about.  No excuses, but I think I might have been getting a little tired, but I so appreciate that you pointed it out, that’s another great tool for learning.  I might go back in and make some changes with your suggestions.  

Also, I would be honored if you used my image on instagram for something you are working on.  You have my permission.  I will be sure to check out some of your other classes as well. :) :)

Well Chris,  I took out my sunflowers to work on the shadows a little bit, but as I got started the paint wouldn’t adhere.  I forgot I already sealed this painting.  I usually forget to seal them and then I have a whole bunch to do.  I am trying to “clean up my act” so to speak. :) :) :)

Hi Marion, Thank you.  This is a different Chris. (Chris V) This is the first class I have taken from her.  I have such a difficult time with flowers that I just keep working at them.  I think I do better wet on dry and working slower like this class :) :)

I will be back for more classes for sure ;)

Thanks Carmen. I surprised myself today, I finished 2 paintings.  I spent 4 days making color charts, so I was happy to get back to painting.

Great class! &nbsp;Was so relaxing, color mixing getting easier for me, I think. &nbsp;Wish the flower on the right had a little more brightness in the center, but overall I&rsquo;m happy as flowers are difficult for me to do. &nbsp;Thanks Chris, for the great tutorial.&nbsp;
