Something for nothing ;-)

So, during my 2 days with Jo at silversmith bootcamp (did I mention already that it was money very well spent, and worth every penny?!) I recycled some of my scrap in her rolling mill and created a bit of square wire for free.

I used 5g of silver I'd previously made into balls, but my hand stuttered a bit when pouring it into the ingot. This meant I had only 2.3g left, which then became almost 9 cm of 1.6 wire. The balls in the top photo are 2.3g worth.

I didn't know what to do with them, but then this project came up. I've made these earrings and a bar I'm going to make into a necklace (I soldered 2.5mm jumprings to either end of that).

My earwires aren't as neat as I'd like, because I couldn't keep the piece of wire steady, which meant the metal wasn't in contact long enough for the solder to flow as much as I wanted (I also think my easy solder might be in pieces that are too large). I should have blocked the movement with a pin. I'll do that next time. Making a divot was genius and I shall be doing that A LOT.

I've put in photos of the mitre cutter jig I bought so show you - I love it. Plus there's a snap of the wire after the rolling mill - it's a much more wearable square than the wire one buys, because the corners are already smoothed off.

Apologies for the state of the photos; I took them with my phone and am still experiencing some IT issues post Microsoft update. It's been a very long 10 days - apart from the 2 spent with Jo!
