Hi Patti! (sorry for the delay to getting back to you)... I love this work, wow, it has such great atmosphere, and really evokes that wintry, icy cold feeling. I think this is because of the wonderful muted colors and tones. What I love most about this painting, is how your colors and textures lead the eye through the landscape to the trees at the back - i know they are the brush texture, but the way they've been layered is really awesome and works very well going from the snow on the ground up to the trees. The only thing I would change is the river on the right hand side, I think it goes "up" too far in the picture, if that makes sense?? To me, it feels like the horizon line should be along the base of the trees. So, rather than show the river going further back and higher, you could just cut it off at the bottom of the trees, and our eye would read that it is going "further back". Let me know if that doesn't make sense?? Also, I would make the rocks in the foreground a bit darker, that would give more contrast and imply that they are nearer. Let me know if I've explained this properly. Unfortunately can't post a picture here of what i mean. But, overall this is great!! I'm seeing loads of potential here... the day job might be in jeopardy soon!! haha! :)
