Sherma's Projects

Sherma's Projects - student project

Finally received my supplies. I mapped and transferred my drawing and carved the design.  I inked some test pieces and then used moist 140 lb watercolor paper (on the back side to minimize the texture).  I feel like the watercolor paper did not provide a smooth enough surface to get a nice deep result. So, I tried Bristol paper which was a little better.  I had a fun time with this and plan to do some more carving.

While I wait for my block printing kit and supplies to arrive, I explored making a few small plate designs with cut up Styrofoam trays, ball-point pen and black acrylic paint. I just drew with the ball-point pen directly on the Styrofoam without a plan.  I can't wait to get my official kit! I already have a planned sketch just waiting to be transferred.

This is super fun, and I can see the potential for all kinds of designs! Thank you, Liz, for sparking my interest.
