Santa_my project

Hi Leo and fellow students! this is my project:

The process.

The first step: idea.

The idea was: 2 people fighting for a Christmas gift.

There I struggled with dynamic poses - how to choose a pose and make poses not symmetrical. I tried some things, but I ended up with an almost symmetrical pose. To make the characters less symmetrical, I changed the height of the characters (made one taller than another). Also while experimenting I made up a background and added a spectator: Santa himself.

The third step: a cleaner sketch and final line art.

My art style is pencil line art + digital coloring. I did not need more for a base than that last sketch.

The final art:

More or less, I am satisfied with the piece. It has a clear story, which is (hopefully) humorous and low-key dramatic. Characters have a strong dynamic between them. The background is adding details and a mood to a story. The colors chosen are Christmas-themed colors.

During the coloring process, I was struggling with tones (how to separate background, foreground, and middle ground). After some trials, I think I have found a proper solution.  Two characters and the gift are supposed to be the main composition point, next we are supposed to see Santa, and next - all the background elements.

So, what do you think? I will be glad to hear feedback.
Thank you for the class. It was fun to watch and participate.
