Hi Barbara. Bravery is the most important quality that an artist can posses. Boldness pushes us into a very uncomfortable zone and timidity keeps us locked in a fearful mindset and a rather chilly comfort zone. Your work has boldness and you have shown your bravery by posting it...so few do.The gentle yellows and crimsons add vibrant color notes beside the dominant brown greys and the green is a perfect compliment to the reds. Now since I have recommended you on your boldness I know that you can benefit from a suggestion that was made to me many years ago by Rudy de Reyna, a well known teacher. "Ron, get some strong darks into your picture, not too many but do add a few."I have been adding a few darks ever since. Darks create contrast and contrast creates interest and focus. You have a good one started over on the rock wall to the right under the yellow tulips. Try adding a few darker spots under the a 'few' of the reds. A dark section on the right side of the trunk of that very well done tree. The difference between a great picture and a good picture is the words we use as we are painting especially when we are finishing. Words like contrast, balance, conflict, dominance, and especially unity are words that make us thinking artists....you are on your way to being that kind of artist. As Edgar Whitney always told his students, "Think more and paint less."Your posting has confirmed my idea that all our students need to learn the 15 most important words to know and use when painting. It will be the subject of our next class.Now Barbara go and start adding some darks to all your work. Look carefully at different pictures you have done and see where they would benefit from a little bit of dark 'pepper'.Artistically yours. Ron
