Product Photography Meets AI

I have created three images for this class project. For the first, I used Canva to remove the background, then animated the image using the “brush” option. Then, I replaced the original background with one of Canva’s available background options.

For the second image, I removed the background in Canva, but this time I used ChatGPT to generate a new background for the product. I prompted it to create a minimalist concrete background that would complement the product.

For the third image, I got a bit more adventurous and used Shopify’s new app called Tinker to generate a bathroom scene for the product.

I believe AI is a great creative tool, especially to speed things up, and experimenting. But, I do not see it completely replacing my product photography. I enjoy taking photos, and I feel that many online images are beginning to look overly artificial and repetitive. In my opinion, relying too heavily on AI can remove some of the fun, authenticity, and human touch from the creative process. Selling products online is already challenging because customers cannot physically touch, feel, or smell the products. Real photography helps with that gap by offering something more personal and genuine.
