I took my inspiration from images like this:

I really like when things/objects take the form of letters. And I love plants and nature and wanted my alphabet to be something earthy. So whatever object popped into my head I tried to think of how I could turn it into a letter. Although some of the other initial brainstorms I had would be fun to play out, I decided to go with the cactus. 

I was pretty happy with how it turned out.
