I've been freelancing doing graphic design for a few years now so I've learned some of this just from experience. I'm also a part of a facebook group that has really helped me with questions on pricing. But recently I have decided to niche down to doing surface pattern design. I am new to licensing art and unsure of industry standards. I will definitely join some of the facebook groups you mentioned.

Learning how to price yourself is definitely a skill that needs to be built and there are a lot of factors to consider. Being able to set boundaries with clients (and stick to them) along with writing contracts are some other things that come along with being a professional artist that take time and experience to gain confidence.

I have already started creating patterns and entering contests (on spoonflower). Now I just need to find the clients! Finding graphic design clients was a bit easier, but pattern design is more specific. Where are they hiding?
