Portfolio for Tracking Patterns (Updated)
UPDATE 2024
Yay!
I have a portfolio of patterns and the patterns are for sale on Spoonflower.

I have updated my SKU numbering format. It is now CHYY-##-C-S
Where:
- The letters CH represent the designer (Chris Heath)
- YY is the year, e.g., 24 represents year 2024
- ## is a unique number representing the design/pattern
- C is the colourway
- S is the size, e.g., L for Large, M for Mid-Size, and S for Small
The only potential change is a change to the number of colours. So far the most colours for a pattern under this SKU is going to be 9, but that can be changed.
And here is my shop on Spoonflower: I'd love to know what you think.

ORIGINAL PROJECT 2023
Now I have my first pattern on Spoonflower, I want to be more organised, especially given that I experiment and create lots of files.
SKU numbers make sense and provide the discipline that I need.
I have settled on the following SKU numbering scheme:
SKU Number format = CHYY-###
Where:
- The letters CH represent the designer (Chris Heath)
- YY is the year, e.g., 23 represents year 2023
- 000, 010, 020, 030, are parent pattern numbers where each pattern number relates to a unique arrangement of design elements
- 001, 002, 003, etc, are variations of parent pattern 000
- 011, 012, 013, etc, are variations of parent pattern 010
- 021, 022, 023, etc, are variations of parent pattern 020
- 031, 032, 033, etc, are variations of parent pattern 030
For example:
CH23-010 is the parent folder
CH23-011 is a child folder representing a variation of the pattern, e.g., a unique colourway
CH23-012 is a child folder representing a variation of the pattern, e.g., same pattern / different colourway
etc...
I am wondering about having a child folder for 000, 010, 020, etc into which goes a neutral/grey master version of the artwork, and this is the file from which the colourways are derived. It won't be a folder that holds files for sale.
Working out what the attributes should be is the tricky bit. I'm still playing around with different ideas.
One last thing I'm working on is a standard image for the thumbnails. I'm using Cheetah 3D to add some cloth texture and movement to the image. Once I have this set up, I can plug any pattern into the 3D file for rendering all my patterns' thumbnails.
