Programming Graphics I: Introduction to Generative Art

The legs image is a super cool use of generative art. I love it. Could you break down the SVGs you used to make it happen? I think it is interesting how there are no "ends" on the outside of the form. How'd you control that?

Hi Randy, thanks for feedback! The SVGs I used are just quarters of concentric circles randomly rotated and with noFIll(). I have then imported the artwork back in Illustrator and edited the ends one by one to make them look continuous.

These two images are really cool. It almost looks like shape and grid layout were combined, which is something i have not yet found out how to do. I also love the combination of randomness with the drawings.

Hi Thomas thanks for your comment.I too have tried to use shape and grid combined but could not figure out how.... I am tempted to think that it is not possible... but I am fairly bad at coding.However you can use pixelcolorist with grid layout (which i have done in another project). It will visually give the same result but shapes will still be drawn in the "white" or transparent areas as white (invisible shapes). Depending on your project you might have to manually delete those invisible/white shapes.

Wow, that's great!! Especially love the first one, the pattern looks awesome! Did you "cut" into the grid on Illustrator to make those shapes?

Hi Zoe, thanks for your comment. For the first image I have not used a grid but HShapeLayout.I have created all the shapes in illustrator and run a script using HDrawablePool and HShapeLayout a few times until I had something I liked. I did not use the random colours option since I wanted to keep some of those pseudo-3D effectsI have then imported the result back into illustrator and modified graphics to obtain that "mirrored" effect and also brought some shapes to the foreground and some into the background...

Very impressive! I haven't tried HShapeLayout yet, but I might need to after viewing these. Excellent execution, I really like the balance of generative / non-generative elements in these works.

I must admit that i totally loved this class. I have been fascinated by patterns for a while now but I was not sure how to include them into my personal work. Thanks to this class I believe I have found the link I was looking for. Below are my first two attempts at merging my work with the generative art process learned directly from master Davis.
