Perching Barn Owl
I didn't exactly follow along, as I was running out of time, but I wanted to do another painting before wrapping up my day! I watched the tutorial during my vacation and listened while painting today, but I was on my own, trying to rely on memory and using my own reference photo. I've had this particular barn owl photo for quite some time that I've wanted to paint, so your class was the perfect inspiration.
I didn’t manage to get the wing to blend as much as I would have liked, but it still turned out fine. When I started, I thought, “Oh no, there are claws!” I wasn’t quite sure how to incorporate them since they were so big, so I just made them happen without too much detail, hoping the focus would remain on the bird.
I loved the full-frontal view of the photo. Although I might have added a bit more dimension, I was quite happy with the results. Thank you again, Jane, for always providing such wonderful classes and subjects to paint! I scanned this in and noticed the colors look a little ‘off’.
