Drawing with Pen 101: Creating Shape with Value and Texture

Hi George! I just love your work so much- I know its been a while since you worked on this, but I am hoping to feature some student work on Skillshare and on Instagram and was wondering if I could share some of your project? Hi Sarah! Thanks so much, that would be great! I've had a lot of changes these last 2 months and had to pack up my studio supplies for a bit and have not done much art at all. But soon hopefully.

All your sketches are awesome. Beautiful bright bold colours for the fish. OMG what awesome Red Panda Bear. Your use of the grid for the fish is beautiful and did a great sketch. Mind you I never like using this technique in high school art class and still don't. So happy that you're enjoying all your classes.

I love the vibrant colors on your beta fish! Those fish are so wildly colored and you have done an amazing job showing the vibrance that they are known for! LOVE! There are lots of marker blending courses- the best way to create smooth transitions is to have a wide range of colors that allow you to ease through color transitions. For example to blend the blue and red a light fairly transparent pink or blue gray could help as a layer over the two colors to help them blend.(I am hoping to work on a marker layering course in the coming months as well :) ) Love what you are working on and I hope you keep creating and sharing! I will be following along!!!

Thanks, Sara! I will search for those classes. I've got to pace myself, as I went crazy buying art supplies in almost every medium except acrylic and oil. I want to dabble in everything,  but I'm realizing that there are only enough hours in the day, ya know? :P At least in a little over 2 years I'll retire, and then... watch out art supplies!!!

Hi George!! I am so so glad to hear you enjoyed the class!! That means so much! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful creatures!! They look GREAT! I love seeing how you checked your work too! Your proportions are great - as is your line quality! Great job not overdoing it on the hatching and cross hatching, knowing where to put that value is often tricky and you did a great job! I also loved seeing your use of stippling! Absolutely AWESOME! I can't wait to see what you do with color and to so see what you continue to create!

Thank you, Sarah! I’m anxious to get better, but I know that it is a process that takes time. I lacked that patience so many years ago, but this time I’m in it for their long haul. Gonna be fun in a year or so looking back! Thanks again for your great teachInk! You are always very encouraging!

I love that you are diving in now and are finding that it brings you joy! This technique definitely does best with patience and I love how that is playing out in the drawings you are posting!! Absolutely brilliant work!

Not too happy with my use of color on this one. Gotta get better with Brush pens and blending. I&rsquo;m sure there is a SkillShare class for that!

I had a blast doing this, and I know I&rsquo;ll get better with lots of practice!
