Patterns and watercolor

Patterns and watercolor - student project

One day I may learn to use Affinity or Photoshop, but for now, I'm playing with watercolor.

I love patterns, and I thought Chris's classes offer great resources for creating patterns in any medium - digital or traditional.

I decided to try them with watercolor.  I printed the grid on watercolor paper - it turned out great!  The light color of the lines offer guidelines without being overwhelming.

I drew some practice patterns.

I chose a very simple one to paint.

It turned out that watercolor was perfect because of it's transparency, I could still see the guidelines after painting, so it was easy to add to my pattern.
