Painting Expressive Cityscapes in Watercolor: Light, Reflections & Atmosphere

I was truly blown away by the student paintings in my last street scene class. Seeing how you all interpreted the lesson in your own unique ways made me want to create another urban inspired class, but with a fresh approach. That’s why I’m excited about this latest class, "Painting Expressive Cityscapes in Watercolor: Light, Reflections & Atmosphere".

I know that cityscapes can sometimes feel overwhelming, but you don’t need to paint the project if it feels like too much right now. Simply watching and absorbing the techniques, insights, and thought processes I share in this class will be incredibly valuable. Sometimes, the biggest artistic breakthroughs come just from understanding new ways of approaching a subject.

This class is about capturing the essence of a city rather than getting lost in the details. What makes it special to me is that it teaches you how to suggest movement, reflections, and atmosphere without having to paint every tiny window or streetlamp. It’s a way of painting that’s both freeing and effective, helping you develop a more expressive and confident watercolor style.

Why I Think You’ll Love This Class:

  • Loosening Up – If you struggle with tight, rigid painting, this will help you embrace spontaneity.
  • Mastering Light & Reflections – Learn to create mood and energy with simple techniques.
  • A Relaxed & Enjoyable Process – No pressure for perfection, just an invitation to explore and enjoy watercolor.

Whether you’re an experienced painter or a beginner, this class has the potential to transform how you approach watercolor. There’s so much to gain just from observing how I think through a painting, and I genuinely believe this is one of those lessons that will help you see watercolor in a whole new way.

If you’re ready to explore the magic of painting cityscapes, I’d love for you to join me. Let’s have fun, experiment, and create something full of light, movement, and life.Painting Expressive Cityscapes in Watercolor: Light, Reflections & Atmosphere - image 1 - student project
