Our Little Secret

The sky darkened as Kelly and Casey walked to Mr. McMiller's corner store. They couldn't help but how much the temperature had dropped. "I wish I had grabbed a jacket before agreeing to walk with you," Casey said. Both girls burst into laughter. Suddenly, Kelly stood frozen, wide-eyed – she had seen someone standing behind a bush. Not sure who this person was, Kelly grabbed Casey by the arm and they both ran as fast as they could.

"Don't look back," Kelly whispered over and over, battling the voice in her mind that was telling her to look back. "We are almost there," Casey shouted, "but I don't know if I can make it."

"Do not give up. Our lives could depend on it," Kelly urged. With every stride, they were getting closer. When they reached their destination, Casey pushed the door with such force that it startled Mr. McMiller, who was standing behind the counter. Panting and trying to catch their breath, both of them bent over with their hands on their knees. Suddenly, Kelly spoke, "There is someone after us! I saw them watching us from behind a bush, and the scariest part is I feel like we know them."

Emily Jones walked into the store, staring directly at the three of them, and said, "I am here to make you suffer for your sins. If only you had spoken up, I would still be alive. You were the only three people who knew the truth, and now it's your turn to pay."
