Shooting a Character Documentary

Wow it looks like your ancestor has an incredible story. I'm assuming this is your g.g.grandfather? If you are planning to put yourself into this story as well, you'll want to give your character some motivation as well. Why does the man (yourself) need inspiration and strength? Is he overcoming adversity in his own life? There are several narrative films that successfully weave past and present histories (Fried Green Tomatoes, Julie and Julia). A friend of mine is attempting a documentary that does something similar right now. If you aren't as concerned with the modern day angle then it seems like you could easily make a historical film about this expedition and it would be fascinating. Keep us posted.

I really appreciate the insite! and Yes to all the questions ha I have my own challenges, obstacles in life aside from never creating a film before and when I began 3 years ago had never been river rafting ha Yes he is my G Grandfather as well:) The majority of the film will be shot in present times with mostly showing my own journey, struggles, and what is motivating me while making comparisons to his journey using info I've found in books that have been created using the expedition members journals and notes. I will check out the film. I appreciate the help! Do you have any other videos on documentary help with funding or anything? I'll be uploading my next assignment tonight.

I don't have any videos re. funding, but I do plan to create one about editing. Do you think that would be useful to you? I'm open to suggestions from you or anyone following this class.
