I painted this picture almost entirely with a palette knife. I chose to use a square canvas for a sense of calmness and balance. I enjoyed painting the sky and the ducks and wish I were better able to capture the sense of reflection in the water and that I knew how to make the reflection differ from the objects it reflects and still be recognizable. Inspired by what I see at a lake not far from where I live, I imagined a family of ducks going on one last swim before settling in some marshy grasses for the night.
