My wee little landscape - Forests and a Hidden Cabin

My wee little landscape - Forests and a Hidden Cabin - image 1 - student project

For this sketch (My FAVOURITE day of the challenge, I must say), I kept things loose and gestural, focusing on layering to create depth. The trees gradually shrink as they recede into the background, and the winding path helps guide the eye through the scene. I angled the cabin slightly to avoid a straight-on view, making it feel more natural. The smoke adds a bit of movement—an easy trick for making a landscape feel more dynamic.

The key takeaway? Overlapping, scale shifts, and simple perspective tricks can make a flat sketch feel like a real space. And, as always, keeping it messy means you can focus on learning rather than perfect lines.
