My Stormy Sky

My Stormy Sky - student project

My Stormy Sky - image 1 - student projectI wanted to start by thanking you for sharing your knowledge and expertise. You explain clearly and break the painting down into easy steps. I am still getting used to painting really wet (water running on the paper) so this was a good class for me to experiment and play around with that technique a bit more.

The colors you list for your grey are a bit different than what I normally use (Ultramarine and Sepia), but your painting looked fabulous so I decided to try it out. I think that the colors in my palette for Indigo and Burnt Sienna must be rather different than the colors you are using (I have a St. Petersburg White Nights 36 pan set). No matter how I tried to mix the paint, it came out looking brown or green and not a true grey. It looks okay on the paper now that it is dry. However, for my third and darkest layer in the clouds I swapped Indigo for Cobalt. I had a little trouble with back runs in the clouds, but overall I am pleased with how it came out.

I really enjoyed the class and creating this painting. I may do another one with a slightly different color scheme based off a photo I took

Many Thanks and Best Wishes,

Amy
