My Nature Sketchbook In Winter
Here are all the different pages I worked on in this class. Feel free to adapt these themes for your own drawing and painting ideas.
My small weather thumbnail landscape, done in pencil and watercolor:
Don’t spend more than 10 minutes on this warm up exercise!
Tree silhouettes drawn in pencil in a very loose style:
Painting winter twigs:
By creating an outline in pencil it’s easier to fill the shapes with watercolor. Feel free to make this a pencil-only or watercolor-only exercise. You could also use ink like I did for the pine and oak leaves.
Drawing cones:
Another exercise with pencil and watercolor. As before, feel free to switch the medium. You don’t have to draw every detail of the cone!
Painting birds:
Two loosely painted birds. A more or less correct pencil sketch is important for these. Study birds closely if you want to draw them. Adding watercolor to these sketches is a lot of fun.
