My DANCER project

Hi everyone,
In this character illustration class we practice drawing from observation before moving on to create our stylized illustrations. So there’s quite a bit of process to go through before we get to the final project.
I followed these steps when working on my DANCERS, I can’t wait to see your beautiful projects next!
Okay, here are a few sketches for exercise 1 in which we draw quick figure drawings from reference images.
I actually took this exercise a step further and drew more developed figures:
For the next exercise I created different body shapes based on the same basic figure drawing, exercise 2
In exercise 3 we identify our style through exploring illustrations by other creatives, along with our own work. We find elements of style like colors, textures, line work and shapes that would become the building blocks of our individual illustration style. So I found that my style is playful, I love to draw with textured brushes, I tend to return to the same palette even when trying to mute my colors. Colors make me happy!
For exercise 4 we draw variations of one character in different poses and view points. It’s always challenging to redraw something that is already finished. So in that sense, this exercise is a good practice in understanding that we can find different ways of drawing a single character.
If you would like to see more of my illustrations for this project check out my IG posts.
The final project that I’d love to share with you is America Top Toes, who got her name from the date I finished her drawing. It was a voting day for the American people. It was hard to stay focused on art that day as I was constantly checking the news!
Thank You for joining me in this class. I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ve created!
