I love mushrooms, so when it came to writing my topic list, they came in at #1. I worked in my A6 Etchr cold press watercolour sketchbook. It's a little small, but the only watercolour sketchbook I have and I really wanted to add colour to this study and use watercolour to do it, so I adapted the spread a little to place my subject in the centre of the area I had, with my writing surrounding it.

I generally like how it turned out, although I think I should have gone a little lighter on the "splash" effect... my idea was to make it look like mushroom spores. But it turned out being a touch too much in the end. I added some coloured pencil to enhance the shadows, as well as crosshatching with an indian ink pen. I wanted a bit of a 3D effect on the white spots on the cap of the Fly agaric mushroom, so after my watercolour had dried, I used thickish Copic Opaque White to add the spots.
