Inspiration and Research:

I used pinterest to look for inspiration - looking for vintage motorcycle logos.

Process:

I then made a very quick rough sketch in my notebook, took a photo and imported into Illustrator. My sketching needs a lot of work, but I am happy with the final result!

I then drew out the logo using the drawing tools and shape builder tool to make the wings, after which I looked for freebie fonts on DesignCuts and RetroSupplyCo, and chose the 'Greasy Spoon' font from Retro Supply and used Ian Barnard's grid builder to lay out the text.

For the final touch I found some free 'grunge' textures on RetroSupply and clipped one of them to the logo layer after I pasted it into Photoshop.
