I  am really enjoying your project Michael. I am new to trying my hand at art, always had many imaginings (is that even a real word?!) in my head but never the skill or bravery to try and get it on paper. Watercolours are a recalcitrant medium! At least pens and pencils put stuff approximately where I want them :) Love the lefty and blind portraits, I had a little rehearsal as I haven't completed my lettering yet, I'm absolutely sold on the blind having done better than with open eyes! Keep going as I look forward to your installments :)

Hey Michael! Thanks for sharing the rest of your experiments!They're all super fun. :) I actually thought it was interesting that you said your third (3B) experiment was bad  - I saw the picture before I saw what you wrote and I really like it! The textures are intricate and intriguing. I'm wondering if you would like it more, if you made the same drawing on thicker paper that can withstand the wet watercolor! You wouldn't believe the difference it can make when you change something like just that - the kind of paper you work on. I also really love where you're going with experiment 4 and think it would be great if you made another drawing with the mix of tools you enjoyed in the upper right!

Oh, I just think the colours of #3 are awful. I was tired when I did it and it was dark and I'm still getting used to watercolors. Thanks for the advice about the paper though. I'm a bit heavy handed with everything so my paper takes some abuse. I will definitely be playing a bit more with the techniques of #4 - I enjoyed that one and would've kept going if I didn't have to meet someone for dinner!  I like doing these exercises, though, b/c they are such a fun break from everything else I am normally thinking about (even though it all sneaks in anyway...).

Cool, glad to hear it!! :D and yes, stuff always sneaks in anyway for sure... it's kind of like when you're trying to meditate; you acknowledge it and let it go (though sometimes it's way harder than others).
See the colors of #3 dont 'bother me as much as they do you but this is the kind of thing I love - you really get to know yourself as you're working through these exercises. There are some color combinations I absolutely HATE as well.... and so it points you to what color combinations you do like :)

It's oozing with energy and life-force, and kind of reminds me of a flurry of bird-feathers or something like that. :)  Can't wait to see the next ones!! :D

Experiment 4 - Something that inspires me drawn a few different ways - TREES!!! Really liked the mix of pencil/ink/water colour in the upside down doodle in the upper right. I will have to do a whole drawing that way.
