Making our home hygge
We already had a nice home before, but there were a few things that bothered us. We weren't entirely happy with the living room in particular. It was open and friendly, but also a little sterile.
So, due to various videos and also a visit from Ana, we've been redesigning it for the past few months.
We paid attention mostly to the following things:
- More natural materials
- More textures, everything was very straight and smooth for us.
I started by buying baskets for the bookshelf. That made a huge difference.
Then we bought a coffee table out of one piece of wood and had a clock made to match the textures in the new curtains. When we bought the new curtains, we made sure that they weren't smooth, but had structure. They now go well with the tiles. Integrating them was also a major concern. We also bought new lamps, which are also made of logs or old wood. Our living room bench is no longer made of smooth fabric, but has something similar to a teddy bear.
When selecting the new carpets, we not only made sure that they were made of wool (natural material), but also that they had lots of fun beads, i.e. they were woven very irregularly with a lot of structure.
We also managed to get rid of the metal rails on the ceiling by converting the roof.
For a long time we also had no idea how to get rid of the many edges and corners on the wall with the piano and the stove. This part of the living room seemed so restless and uncomfortable. Actually, these were the focal points of our living room, but you didn't notice that because the walls didn't reflect it.
The saving idea then came from our interior decorator: wallpaper that looks like fabric. Since the wallpaper looks as if it would wrinkle, the edges are no longer as noticeable. It looks more like a curtain snaking along.
We also wallpapered the ceiling. Now this structural condition, which has always bothered me, is emphasized by combining it with the wallpaper and so this entire corner has become a focal point and looks totally cozy.
Finally, the brick banister got a wooden paneling. Now it looks warmer.
And the cold imitation leather of the dog place had to give way to a cozy basket with a cuddly interior. So that the blankets don't lie around on the sofa and have to be folded every time, I put them in a basket in front of the couch. For the table we bought a seagrass tray and a beautiful textured vase.
What else we did are new lamps. We have invested in a Hue system from Philips and can now illuminate the living room in a very romantic way in the evenings.
It's difficult to capture all of that in one photo. But I tried. First giving you an overview and then some details.
Then we tried to implement these things in other rooms to make the house feel cohesive and hygge.
Unfortunately I don't have any before photos of these rooms.
In the hall there is a new wooden mirror and a new wool carpet.
There is also a new lamp in the bathroom.
In the study a new carpet, curtains and bed linen for the day with structure.
I hope you like it... WE DO ♥... Thanks for you inspiration Ana, Karin
