Mid-Century Illustration Fun: Make it Jolly!

Eric, this update is fantastic.I absolutely love that you took the techniques from the class and turned them into a whole little Hadestown series. That’s exactly the kind of creative leap that makes me so happy to see.The four portraits work beautifully together. Your muted pink and brown color palette gives the whole set such a cohesive, slightly theatrical feel, and each character still has so much individual personality. And those little knee bumps? Brilliant. Such a tiny detail, but they add so much charm and make the figures feel wonderfully stylized.Hades with the cigarette absolutely made me laugh too 😄 The character details are just so good. This is such a strong, clever series, and it’s really exciting to see you make the style completely your own. Thank you so much for sharing the update!

Eric, I love that you’re on such a mid-century roll right now 😄Your Letter to Santa piece turned out beautifully, and it’s so much fun seeing you carry that same playful energy from one class into the next. You really captured the cheerful, nostalgic MCM feeling here, and the whole illustration has so much charm and personality.I’m especially excited to hear that you’re already thinking about how to use the style in your own work. That’s exactly where things get really interesting. And yes, the cookbook class is waiting for you next 😄Thank you so much for your lovely words and for sharing another fantastic project!Jutta

I'm updating my project to include a series I did using the techniques I learned! I've been obsessed with the musical Hadestown lately so I did little portraits of the 4 main characters (based off of Greek Mythology.) <img srcset="https://static.skillshare.com/uploads/discussion/tmp/22618543.jpg 600w, https://static.skillshare.com/uploads/discussion/tmp/22618543.jpg 1000w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 600px, 100vw" src="https://static.skillshare.com/uploads/discussion/tmp/22618543.jpg" loading="lazy" alt="MCM: Letter to Santa - image 1 - student project">
