Learn to Draw and Paint in Photoshop

Learn to Draw and Paint in Photoshop - student project

This class was a great introduction to digital drawing and painting. I brought a Wacom Bamboo tablet many years ago but only used it for a few scribbles before I decided it wasn't for me as I felt the learning curve was too great. I've been spending time re-acquainting myself with Photoshop recently and saw this course in my recommended so thought it was time to dust off my tablet and give digital art another go.

Project One - Lioness Sketch

Proportions are off (I don't draw regularly so that's no surprise to me!) but this exercise helped me to get to grips with the hard and soft brushes and pressure sensitivity.

Project Two - Bird Painting

I enjoyed building up the various colours and trying to make it look like the feathers had some texture. I have NEVER painted anything before, either traditionally or digitally so I am happy with the result.

Project Three - Landscape

I think I went wrong here by choosing a reference photo with a lot of detail, so when it came to trying to simplify it, I didn't know where to start and therefore I went a bit too basic!  However, I still had fun messing around with all the brushes and colours to try and make different textures to match different elements in the reference photo so I don't feel it was time wasted.

Thanks for the great course Siobhan, it's definitely shown me that digital art is nothing to be afraid of and I'm looking forward to trying out the techniques again soon!
