Jellyfish exploration series
Jellyfish #1:

This project was so much fun. Creating the background was the best part. I was a little afraid to add the drips, but I decided to trust the process and I'm so happy that I did. I didn't have all the colors so I mixed some viridian and pthalo blue GS for the turquoise and that worked out well. I also used cobalt, quinacridone rose, and a hint of new gamboge and rhodonite genuine. It's a little darker than I wanted, but overall I am happy with it.
I enjoyed the project so much and I wanted to play around with the techniques and colors a bit more, so I did a second one. The background started to remind me of light on rippling waves, so I tried to bring that out more with lifting the color after the first wash. I also want to try a warm color on the jellyfish for contrast, so I used new gamboge and quinacridone rose.
Jellyfish #2:

I wanted to explore further and tried to play with masking fluid to bring out the jellyfish from the background and also wanted to see if I could take the light in the water effects in a different direction. It's a departure from the techniques in the class, but I was so inspired to play around with other ways to approach the subject I wanted to give it a try.
Jellyfish #3:

My last jellyfish attempt is one where I re-watched the entire class again and followed along. I enjoyed all of my explorations and my original project, but I really wanted to give it another try to see if I could get that loose playful textured background and more finesse to my jellyfish without getting so detailed. I do like this one better than my original, so I think it was all time well spent and listening to the class again helped me to remember not to try so hard to control everything and just let the watercolor be watercolor.
