Inspired by Klimt

I'm not sure I've ever been so surprised as when I discovered how inspiring Klimt was. I almost skipped this class, because I've never been a "gold" person - but as I watched one of Denise's videos, I got this image in my head for a painting and it wouldn't let go.

Have you ever heard anyone say, "That artist had to have been on drugs when they painted that!" I've heard that a lot, but I assure you no drugs were involved in the creation of this fun little painting. When I first saw Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, I was drawn to all the "fish" on her dress. It took me a minute to realize those were eyes. Ha.

I KNOW it's not a masterpiece, didn't intend for it to be. But I had such incredible fun incorporating so many of Klimt's marks! And - I even bought myself a tube of Golden's gold (Iridescent Gold Fine) and now I'm hooked. It's so far superior to all the craft paints I've been using, it made me want to cry. Ha. I'm still watching videos, and will likely paint others, but time was short for me this week, so I was glad to finish this one.

I used color palette number 9 in the handout you created, Denise. I modified it a little, but not drastically.

Excellent class, Denise. Thank you for all the information and inspiration!
