Inky Landscapes

Inky Landscapes - student project

I just planned to watch the introduction of your new class, Catherine, but you drew me right in. I had to paint along with you. I used my favourite non-waterproof Sumi Ink and Kakimori nib. I drew from reference photos I've had hanging around on my computer. I perpetually struggle to remember to leave white space (which is perhaps why I usually work with acrylic gouache, since I don't have to remember, haha).

I had the most fun with my mark-making. I'd never tried drawing into water with my dip pen and the effects were so delightful.

Finally, my inky landscape. I think the image would have had more impact if I had remembered to leave more white space for the path and some of the trees, but I had fun and painted, so I'm not going to worry about it too much.
