Inky Botanicals in Watercolor and Procreate
Usually, I start by browsing some books for inspiration and enjoying vintage engravings:
Artworks by Pierre-Joseph Redouté
I also enjoyed some contemporary acrylic artworks by Olaf Hajek:
After making a detailed sketch and planning all the colors I created a sharp and crisp “plan” on my 100% cotton paper.
This way it’s easier to start working with permanent inks right away.
After the first layer is dry (which happens aw so fast) I apply the mix of red and pink watercolors with a French (“mop”) brush #1. And then add final details with semi-transparent yellow glazing here and there.
Irises have always amazed me with their beauty. So I decided to paint the classical version of it in Procreate.
Starting with shapes first, it’s easier to sculpt the flower.
To achieve the full composition and vintage look I painted leaves and added a bit of noise and background to the whole piece.
Thanks for painting with me! So curious to see what you create!...
Don't forget to say hi on Instagram and subscribe to my mailing list where I share some art inspiring insights.
See you in the class! Will be waiting for your artworks in the Project Gallery
